LINDANE (GAMMA BENZENE) – TREATMENT OF SCABIES

When absorbed systemically, gamma benzene hexachloride stimulates the central nervous system. Gamma benzene hexachloride is thought to stimulate the nervous system after passing through the chitinous exoskeleton of arthropods, resulting in convulsions and death. Lotion—In one study, infants and children had a mean peak blood concentration of 28 nanograms per mL 6 hours after total body application of Gamma benzene hexachloride lotion for scabies. In one study, the half-life of lindane in infants and children treated for scabies with Gamma benzene hexachloride lotion was 18 hours. Animal studies have revealed that Gamma benzene hexachloride is not carcinogenic.

Despite the high incidence of tumors in the control group, Gamma benzene hexachloride was thought to be safe in one study.
